My sister reminded me today about a cake that we used to make when I was in art school, a killer potluck crowd-pleaser named Gene’s Sohio Chocolate Cake. Gene worked at the local gas station, and was a friend of my lively household of roommates. Very rich, very chocolate-y. Probably enough calories to keep a small village going.
Gene’s Sohio Chocolate Cake
4 C flour 4 C sugar( try 3- 3 ½) 1 ½ C cocoa 4 tsp baking soda 4 tsp baking powder |
2 sticks butter 4 eggs 2 C milk 2 C hot coffee 4 tsp vanilla |
Cream butter and sugar together, Add all dry ingredients and mix. Beat eggs lightly , add all wet ingredients and mix. Pour into 3 round greased and floured cake pans (didn’t say what size – it was the 70’s… go with the flow.)
Bake 30-35 mins @ 350 degrees. Makes a BIG 3 layer cake and requires a chocolate cream cheese frosting.
My sister made this as a sheet cake in a rectangular pan. She said it took 45 minutes to bake in that format.
